The rampaging Westboro Baptist Church fundamentalist kooks are set to picket the funeral of the late African-American Democrat Congresswoman for Ohio, Stephanie Tubbs Jones, who died recently of a brain aneurysm after representing her district for the last ten years. Tubbs Jones was a strong LGBT rights ally, whose golden legislative record included support for LGBT adoptions in the District of Columbia, opposition to the Federal Marriage Amendment (which would insert a same-sex marriage ban into the US constitution), advocacy for stricter hate crimes legislation, supported greater HIV/AIDS funding, and staunchly supported ENDA (the proposed national US federal anti-discrimination law which would cover lesbians and gay men).

Predictably, because of her strong voting record for LGBT equality, the Westboro Baptist Church’s pack of ambulatory fruitcakes will bring their unwanted message of derision, hatemongering and rancour to what should be the commemoration of the life of a noble woman. They blame Phelps for letting “gays take over the country” (really? which one?) and “persecuting” Westboro members for ‘alerting America to the ’sodomitical’ (sic) dangers that it faces.”
