Winter Pride is the only Winter Pride Festival in New Zealand. It started in 2003 as Gay Ski Week, a two-day event. It has since evolved into "Winter Pride" and is now one of the biggest festivals in Queenstown and the biggest winter pride festival in the southern hemisphere.

Situated in Queenstown, Queenstown is surrounded by stunning alpine ranges, making it a major centre for snow sports in New Zealand, with four main mountain ski fields: Cardrona Alpine Resort, Coronet Peak, The Remarkables and Treble Cone, all hosting events for Winter Pride.
