āPast and Presentā
Celebrating Sapphic Musicians of The Past and Present
The Charlotte Museum Te Whare TakatÄtpui-WÄhine o Aotearoa will be hosting an evening of live music paying tribute to the sapphic musicians of previous generations. Taking inspiration from the collective album from 1982 Out of The Corners, we have gathered a new collective of talented queer musicians to put their spin on music from the past. We wish to honour the work and dedication of the lesbian wÄhine who paved the path to make the Aotearoa music scene more inclusive and accessible.
āPast and Presentā showcases a variety of songs written by influential musicians and activists such Mahinaarangi Tocker, Val Murphy, Lynda Topp, Di Cadwallader, Jess Hawk Oakenstar, Jools Topp, Hattie St John, Mereana Pitman, Tracy Huirama, Clare Bear, and Hilary King.
Our new generation of talented musicians include Britta Hamill, Eden Iris, Evelyn Fletcher-Jenkins, Holly Dove, Kim Halliday, Marissa Holder, Samara Alofa, Sarah Radford, and Sophie Sutherland who all hail from different musical backgrounds.
āPast and Presentā highlights the creativity, collaboration, connection, and empowerment of music for the queer community. The incredible talent of each composer and performer combines to create a once in a lifetime night of music that illustrates the power of community and intergenerational connection. Come along and be a part of this amazing evening celebrating the āPast and Presentā.
